This assignment requires students to listen to a podcast episode each week that relates to the assigned readings. This assignment has been used in both SOCI 217 Ethnic and Race Relations and SOCI 219 Sex and Gender in Society. Students are encouraged to select an episode each week from either New Books in Sociology , New Books in Gender Studies, The Social Breakdown, The Annex Sociology Podcast, or Untenured Tracks.
The weekly review is approximately two-pages in length (not including title page or references) and an essential part to writing a quality review of a podcast is for the reviewr to write concisely. This allows readers to have a general understanding of both the podcast episode and the critique that is being made. The point of a review is not for the writer to summarize what they listened to, but to identify the merit of the episode and critically evaluate what was said using the course textbook (and other scholarly resources) to support their argument.
